Meet the owner
Mei Ling Chau, the founder and owner of HIRO Japanese Steakhouse and Sushi Bar, was born in Hong Kong and moved to Jacksonville, NC, as a child. Her journey in the restaurant business began with her father's Chinese restaurant, where she gained invaluable experience. After relocating to Wilmington, NC, Mei Ling opened the original HIRO Japanese Steakhouse at University Landing in the early nineties.
A decade later, she moved the restaurant to its own building on Old Eastwood Road, adding a sushi bar to the experience. Her dedication to quality food and exceptional service consistently earns the restaurant the title of Best Japanese Restaurant in Wilmington.
